Join specialists from around the world for a unique annual event covering latest trends and developments in food safety.
Food Safety remains top of mind for retailers in all regions and there is a
wide consensus over the urgency of the issue. The need for retailers to manage
carefully food safety has increased with various food alerts and new regulations.
Last year's CIES International Food Safety Conference in Barcelona highlighted
the importance of collaboration in maximising food safety throughout the chain.
Geoffrey Podger, the head of the new European Food Safety Authority, stressed
the need for wide collaboration and said that the body would work closely with
different stakeholders in order to assess and communicate food safety risks.
His emphasis on the importance of effective communication was echoed by several
other speakers, who pointed to the impact of consumer and media perceptions
compared to scientific evidence. In this context of close public scrutiny, coordinated
research, controls and communication are therefore an urgent priority for reinforcing
consumer confidence in food. (Extract from Food Business news, February 2004)
Over the past 4 years, more than 1,000 senior food safety specialists from over
